Janet and Chris Chester started visiting Zambia in the summer of 2011 to work with Mission Direct on a number of projects for young children. Mission Direct enables teams of volunteers from the UK to show God’s love in practical ways by participating in local projects that benefit communities in some of the world’s poorest countries. As a result of HIV/AIDS and the economic situation there are many orphans and children at risk, without family, provision of food, shelter, health care or education. It is these most vulnerable that we are seeking to help.
They initially worked on the last two classrooms in Kiine School, offering a learning environment for some of Zambia’s poorest children, living in a nearby shanty town. They now work on installing computer suites for schools and projects around Lusaka. In September 2014 on their latest visit Chris lead a team to install 100 computers .
The computer suites are developed in partnership with the Re-Wired Project where Chris is part of the management team. The Re-Wired project work in Africa and are currently focused on Zambia and Congo Brazzaville.
